LEVEL FOUR PAVES THE WAY FOR THE CHIP CARD SUPPORT AT ATM'S IN THE MIDDLE EAST
Banque Saudi Fransi selects Level Four to help integrate and test support for EMV, Triple DES and advanced self-service ATM functions
London, 8 March 2004 - Level Four Software, the leading provider of ATM test and development software, today announced its first customer win in the Middle East. Banque Saudi Fransi, a Saudi Arabian Joint Stock Company affiliated with the Credit Agricole Group, one of the world's top ten banks by total equity, has licensed Level Four's Channel Development Suite to assist in the migration of its ATM network to support EMV as part of the second generation Saudi Payments Network (SPAN2). Banque Saudi Fransi has also licensed Level Four's Bunch Note Acceptor module to improve self-service across its growing ATM network.
Using Level Four's Channel Development Suite, Banque Saudi Fransi will develop, test and rapidly deploy new content and applications within the ATM delivery channel directly from a desktop PC. Banque Saudi Fransi will benefit from significant cost savings and decrease in time spent manually testing transactions at individual ATMs.
The Saudi Payment Network (SPAN), created in 1990, allows banks to use online electronic funds transfer (EFT) capabilities for their ATMs and POS terminals. SPAN2 is the second generation of the network established by the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA) and will continue to facilitate inter-bank money transfers and easy access by bank customers to their funds through ATMs.
The success of SPAN in Saudi Arabia has seen a proliferation of availability and usage of ATMs and POS terminals in recent years. Banque Saudi Fransi anticipates strong growth in its ATM population in the years ahead. As such, Level Four's Channel Development Suite will help cope with increased usage by offering swift and centralised uploading of new functionality to the ATM network. Banque Saudi Fransi's customers will benefit from enhanced ATM features and service. Level Four's EMV FastTrack will assist the bank with its project to support chip card acceptance at the ATM for its own cardholders as well acquiring other domestic and international card schemes.
Banque Saudi Fransi has also licensed Level Four's Bunch Note Acceptor module -a simulation of an automated ATM deposit facility which counts and checks a cash deposit and allows funds to clear in real time. Despite increased card usage, depositing cash and cheques into bank accounts is still one of the main reasons for Saudi customers to enter the branch. The primary business driver for the bank to introduce the Bunch Note Acceptor module is to redirect customers from the branch to the self-service capabilities of ATMs.
Ahmad Al Kassim, Manager ITD/Development Department, Banque Saudi Fransi comments, "We aim to create long term and personalised partnerships with all our customers, gaining loyalty through recognised banking expertise, quality of service, and innovative and customised financial solutions. Working with Level Four, we are positive that Banque Saudi Fransi's ATM network will continue to improve as it grows. Level Four's software will help us offer unparalleled quality of services to our valued customers by helping to streamline and automate the testing of our ATM network, and assisting our migration to SPAN2 and EMV."
"Banque Saudi Fransi's implementation of Bunch Note Acceptor and new security features such as Triple DES reflects the bank's forward looking approach," comments Martin Macmillan, CEO, Level Four. " The bank is fully in tune with major developments in the use of the ATM as a trusted customer channel."
Osman Mehta, Middle East Regional Manager, Level Four, adds, "We are excited about our first client win in the Middle East which coincides with the company's goals of expanding into the region. We look forward to supporting Banque Saudi Fransi and other customers in the region to help deploy innovative ATM services."
